The former Real Madrid and Barcelona midfielder unveiled his manifesto at Wembley yesterday, where he attempted to seduce the 209 national associations by proposing an expansion of the World Cup to 48 teams.
Figo’s proposal, which would consist of two 24-team tournaments played on two continents simultaneously with a final knockout stage held in one country, was just one of the ideas put forward by the Portuguese.
