Karembeu: Azerbaijan has a chance to qualify for next world championship

Baku. 9 February. REPORT.AZ/ A briefing was held over bringing the World Cup to Azerbaijan. 

Report informs, the event at the Hilton Hotel was attended by AFFA General Secretary Elkhan Mammadov and Christian Karembeu, who won a gold at the 1998 World Cup.

Karembeu was pleased to visit Baku again: “The capital of Azerbaijan is a modern city. Every time I am pleased to come here. Baku always holds sporting events. The Azerbaijani national team performed well under the leadership of Robert Prosinečki. You have a good chance to play in the qualifying round of the next round. I hope to see your team in World Cup-2022. Because 48 countries will participate in the next World Cup. World Cup travelled long distances. Azerbaijan is the 16th. But we are not tired of trips. We are pleased to bring this trophy here”.

Mammadov welcoming the Cup and Cristiano Ronaldo said that there could be three reasons to see the World Cup in the country: "The first reason is the world championship, the second is being host country, and the third is the current reason. I hope we will benefit from the first two reasons in the future”.
