Former Gabala manager: Premier League star players addicted to gambling

Baku. 29 June. REPORT.AZ/ "70 percent of the star football players in the Premier League are addicted to gambling. This is a serious social problem. Those who play in the minor league are fighting alcoholism”.

Report informs, former Gabala head coach Tony Adams wrote in his book “Sober” for charity purpose.

A 51-year-old veteran footballer and Arsenal legend believes, the increase in the number of those with bad habits is due to the huge salaries paid to young players.

He gave his recommendations to young players in his book: "My salvation began by telling everything. Do not hesitate to say what is inside. I received unbelievable support when I confessed that I was reliant on alcohol.

Last season, I lost seven consecutive titles, as the head coach of Granada. But that does not mean that I would have to go and drink, or get a Ferrari to fix my mood."

Notably, along with Gabala, Tony Adams failed in England's Wycombe and Portsmouth as well as Spain's Granada clubs. He was alcohol-dependent when he was a footballer. He then opened a clinic with a charity purpose to treat alcoholism. There are 76 employees in the clinic.
