FA ready to appoint first chairwoman in 157-year history

The English Football Association is planning to appoint a chairwoman for the first time in its 157-year history, Report informs, citing The Times.

Debbie Hewitt, 57, the former chief executive of the RAC who was appointed MBE for services to business and the public sector in 2011, is understood to be a leading contender and the FA hopes to make an announcement next month.

Hewitt is a big fan of the Liverpool club, and is expected to lead the process of submitting a joint UK-Ireland bid to host the 2030 World Cup.

Last November, 63-year-old Greg Clark left this position due to a racial conflict. In a speech about racism in football, he used the phrase "colored football players", which caused a mixed reaction in society. Clark later apologized for his words.
