Close to bidding for 2030 World Cup England asks Azerbaijan for support

Baku. 9 July. REPORT.AZ/ The FA chairman Greg Clarke has visited Azerbaijan in what looks like a concerted effort to pave the way to bring the 2030 World Cup to England. Report informs citing the Daily Mail.

Clarke has visited football federations of the smaller states around Russia such as Azerbaijan and Georgia and is said to have been well received.

Investing time in a shuttle diplomacy tour is the clearest indication yet that the FA is close to bidding for 2030, though there will still be caution after their history of failed bids for 2006 and the calamitous 2018.

Notably, England hosted World Cup once in 1966. It became the winner of that mundial. The 2018 World Cup is being held in Russia, and WC- 2022 will be held in Qatar, and the WC-2026 in the US, Canada and Mexico. The winner country is determined by a vote of 211 FIFA member countries.
