The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is ready to work with national statistical offices to support the funding of statistical systems, Eduard Mihalas, Regional Population and Data Advisor at the UNFPA Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, said at the 3rd International Statistical Forum on the "Prospects for the Development of Statistics: The Role of International Projects" in Baku, Report informs.
He noted that each new indicator requires funding to track the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and demonstrate progress towards them.
"UNFPA is ready to continue collaborating on SDGs 5.6.1 and 2, which relate to reproductive health and are complex to monitor. Collaboration in building capacity at the national level and conducting various studies is important. Our UNICEF colleagues discussed the need for a combined approach, as they already have some of these indicators," Mihalas said.
He added that in just a few years, the world will begin talking about the next SDG agenda: "By then, we must ensure that the current agenda is achieved. This requires a strong international partnership, because these issues can only be resolved jointly."
