Veysalov: TAP emerged as crucial energy infrastructure in Europe

Expanding TAP might help achieve the European Union’s decarbonization goals, the head of the external affairs department of the TAP AG, Vugar Veysalov, said at the Belgrade Energy Forum, Report informs.

Veysalov emphasized the pipeline’s integral role in securing Europe’s energy supplies.

“TAP has emerged as a crucial energy infrastructure, bringing gas from a new source and an alternative route during a period of significant energy supply challenges.

As Europe navigates its transition to a low carbon future, maintaining a diverse, secure, reliable, and affordable energy supply is imperative for remaining competitive. TAP is committed to ensuring this transition happens in sustainable manner.

TAP’s potential full expansion could contribute to advancing the EU’s decarbonization targets by facilitating the transportation of new volumes of hydrogen and other renewable gases in the future,” stated Veysalov.

Azerbaijan began exporting gas to Europe on December 31, 2020. According to the agreement between Azerbaijan and the EU, by 2027, supplies of Azerbaijani gas should reach at least 20 billion cubic meters per year.

At the same time, by the end of 2025, the TAP, as part of the first stage of expansion, will be ready to accept an additional 1.2 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas, of which, from 2026, Italy will receive 1 billion cubic meters, and Albania will receive another 200 million cubic meters.
