TAP makes Italy gas exporter

The Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which will transport Azerbaijani natural gas to Europe, has made Italy a gas exporter for the first time.

Report informs, citing Italian media, that on the last day of 2021, Italy sold 20 million cubic meters of gas, which is about 10% of its net consumption of 214 million cubic meters.

This was possible thanks to TAP, which carries 8.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan to Apulia and the country's storage system.

Last year, the pipeline transported 6.8 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan to Italy.

TAP transports natural gas from the giant Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea to Europe. The 878 km long pipeline connects with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border in Kipoi, crosses Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Southern Italy.

TAP's shareholding is comprised of bp (20%), SOCAR (20%), Snam (20%), Fluxys (19%), Enagás (16%) and Axpo (5%).
