SOCAR to open 9 filling stations in Istanbul’s new airport

Baku. 23 November. REPORT.AZ/ SOCAR, the biggest foreign investor of Turkey, has won the tender announced on 9 filling stations in the new airport of Istanbul after completion of its construction, Report informs citing SOCAR.

SOCAR Turkey Energy has won the tender on 9 filling stations in the Istanbul Airport. The new filling stations in the area of the airport, including the ramp, will supply consumers and service cars with fuel. Thus, SOCAR will serve consumers in the largest airport of the world with the annual capacity of 200 million passengers.

Vagif Aliyev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SOCAR Turkey, said that for the first time they will participate in a sector of direct service to the consumer in Turkey: "We entered the Turkish market by acquiring Petkim in 2008 and implemented large-scale projects such as STAR Oil Refinery, TANAP, Petlim Container Terminal, Petkim Wind Power Plant by making investments in the amount of $14.2 billion.  The area covered by all SOCAR Turkey  project in Aliaga was declared as the first Special Industrial Zone in Turkey. Turkey is an important country for us. I’m very glad that we won the tender on 9 filling stations in the largest airport of the world. This is a significant step for us in terms of both introduction of our brand and direct contact with consumers. Our company always assesses existing opportunities in the filling station sector and is closely following the processes in the market. So, it’s not an exception that we will make investments in this sector in the years ahead."

5 out of 9 filling stations will be located in the ramp, 1 in cargo transportation area, 2 in the car park. The last one, which will be launched on December 31, 2018 and cover an area of 16,280 square meters, will serve the Taxi Drivers Cooperative. The 5 filling stations in the ramp will supply 4,000 cars. The station, which will be located in the area of 5,000 square meters in a cargo town on the west of the airport that includes customs storehouses, buildings of agencies, customs offices and all logistics operation, will serve more than 1,000 cars of cargo companies, passengers. Other two stations will supply fuel to 1,200 cars of more than 30 car rental companies. SOCAR’s filling stations are planned to be used by 10,000 cars per day.
