The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has successfully launched a new production well in the Gunashli field, situated in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, Report informs, citing SOCAR.
Well No. 341a has commenced operations with a daily production rate of 32 tons after the completion of a side barrel drilling.
Despite facing several challenges during the drilling process, the efforts of SOCAR employees led to a successful outcome, the company said.
The Gunashli field is located 120 km east of Baku and 12 km southeast of the Neft Dashlari field.
To date, 370 wells have been drilled in the Gunashli field, with 279 currently operational. Since the field’s development began, it has produced 201.3 million tons of oil (including condensate) and over 127 billion cubic meters of gas.
The peak oil production in the Gunashli field was recorded in 1991, with 6.7 million tons extracted from 114 active wells. The highest gas production was 6.6 billion cubic meters in 2008. The field is now in its third stage of development and is managed by the 28 May Oil and Gas Extraction Department of the Azneft Production Union of SOCAR.
