OPEC: Azerbaijan’s gas exports rose by 41 % in 2021

In 2021, the volume of daily gas exports from Azerbaijan abroad amounted to 18.944 million cubic meters, Report informs, citing the annual statistical bulletin of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

According to the bulletin, this is 41.4% more than in 2020.

According to the results of 2021, a total of 1,418.823 billion cubic meters of gas were imported daily in the world. This is 7.8 % more than at the end of 2020.

Natural gas batches are delivered to the Turkish market via the South Caucasus Pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) and TANAP. The first batch of Azerbaijani gas entered the Turkish market via the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline in 2007. The transportation of commercial gas to Turkiye via TANAP began on June 30, 2018.

Azerbaijani gas supplies via TAP to consumers in Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria began on December 31, 2020.

As of May 1 of this year, more than 12 billion cubic meters of natural gas were transported to Europe through the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP), of which more than 10 billion cubic meters are accounted for by Italy.

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline AG consortium is considering three scenarios for expanding TAP capacity: limited - up to 14.4 billion cubic meters, partial - up to 17.1 billion cubic meters, and full - up to 20 billion cubic meters per year.
