Report informs citing TASS that the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak spoke to journalists following the G20 summit.
"We will discuss this [extension of the deal] on July 1-2, but it seems expedient for us to go through the winter period also within the framework of the agreement, that is, closer, probably, to nine months," he said.
According to him, in the winter period it is difficult to get out of the deal - at this moment the demand falls, and in the summer, the demand, on the contrary, rises.
Speaking about the position of other countries, Novak noted that the decision to extend the transaction was “fairly consolidated.”
"I hope that we have formulated common approaches," he said, assuming that the upcoming negotiations on the deal would be held as usual.
In addition to Russia and Saudi Arabia, other countries also spoke about the extension of the deal, the minister noted. Answering the question whether he expects problematic negotiations with Iran in this part, Novak said that he could not speak for this country, but in general the countries are inclined to extend cooperation.
The macroeconomic situation speaks about the effectiveness of the extension of the OPEC + agreement, Novak added.
"Certainly, the analysis of the current market situation, the uncertainties that exist today, plus the forecast for the second half of the year - all these factors, fundamental and force majeure, they say that today, in the face of uncertainty, it’s still better not to disturb the market, and to extend the agreement and to leave the offer on the market as it is," he concluded.
Earlier, following the G20 summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia and Saudi Arabia would support the extension of OPEC + deal, probably for up to nine months.
