Cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU focuses on the energy sector, but is far from being limited to it, Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko said at a press conference in Baku on December 15, Report informs.
He noted that the results of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU in 2022 can be called productive. He reminded that the European Union will allocate 2 billion euros to Azerbaijan to diversify the economy, create new jobs and develop inclusive rural areas.
Implementation of some projects supported by the EU has already started in Azerbaijan. Thus, in December of this year, the implementation of a project to improve the management system of the Baku International Sea Port was launched to turn it into the most developed in the region and to receive the status of a “green port, Michalko said.
He stressed that Azerbaijan-EU bilateral cooperation focuses on energy, but is far from being limited to this.
Commenting on the signed memorandum of understanding on strategic partnership in the energy sector, Michalko noted that it is designed to further develop cooperation between the two parties also in renewable energy.
This is also a priority for the European Commission and for President Ursula von der Leyen. Azerbaijan has great potential in renewable energy, wind and solar energy, Michalko added.
