Masdar to provide over 30% of Azerbaijan's electricity needs through renewables

The projects implemented by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) company Masdar in the field of renewable energy in Azerbaijan will allow to provide more than 30% of the country's electricity demand from renewable energy sources, Director of Masdar Azerbaijan Murad Sadikhov said at an event themed "Innovative paths to a greener future: Renewable energy sources and emission reduction," held in Baku, Report informs.

"Two solar power plants are currently under construction - in Bilasuvar with a capacity of 445 MW and in Neftchala with a capacity of 315 MW. The plant in Bilasuvar will be the largest generation facility in the entire Caspian region," Sadikhov noted.

It is also planned to begin the construction of a 240 MW wind power plant by the end of this year.

"These three facilities are part of a larger Mega project with a total capacity of 1 gigawatt. Through their implementation, Masdar will make a significant contribution to Azerbaijan's energy transition and provide more than 30% of its current electricity consumption from renewable sources," said Sadikhov.

According to him, the implementation of the project was made possible thanks to the close cooperation with the Azerbaijani government, international partners, as well as the support of the Abu Dhabi and UAE governments.

"Despite the challenges, we are determined to move forward with this ambitious project together," the director of Masdar Azerbaijan said.
