More than 47 billion cubic meters of gas have been transported to Europe through the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) to date, Luca Schippati, Managing Director of TAP, said during the 30th anniversary Baku Energy Forum.
According to Report, Schieppati said that out of the total volume, Italy accounts for 39 billion cubic meters of gas.
"We have offered the possibility to utilize the pipeline's capacity to the maximum daily, in the short term, considering current operating conditions. We will continue to do so. By the way, as mentioned earlier, from January 1, we will provide the market with an additional 1.2 billion cubic meters of capacity. We are working actively, everything is on schedule, and we will deliver this, which is important. In the long term, we will also ensure additional short-term capacity," said Schieppati.
The Trans Adriatic Pipeline, the final component of the Southern Gas Corridor designed to transport Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian Sea to Europe, was commissioned for commercial operation on November 15, 2020. The 878 km pipeline runs through Greece, Albania, the Adriatic Sea, and Italy.
Azerbaijan began exporting gas to Europe on December 31, 2020. According to an agreement between Azerbaijan and the EU, Azerbaijani gas supplies are expected to reach at least 16 billion cubic meters per year by 2027. As part of the first stage of the pipeline expansion, Italy will receive 1 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas, and Albania will get 200 million cubic meters.
