Infrastructure works on increasing capacity of TAP pipeline completed

The Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) operator, TAP AG, has announced that the first infrastructure works within the framework of the pipeline's capacity expansion have been completed on schedule.

The company told Report that the infrastructure works were carried out from September 19 to 30 at the Kipoi interconnection point on the Greece-Türkiye border, where TAP connects to the Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline. These works were completed within the planned timeframe.

TAP AG recalled that, based on the results of market tests in 2021, the company has committed to increasing the pipeline's transmission capacity by an additional 1.2 billion cubic meters per year by January 1, 2026.

The expansion involves adding a new 15 MW gas turbine compressor unit to the existing compressor station at Kipoi and upgrading the equipment there. The installation of the gas turbine compressor unit began in July 2024, with additional parts scheduled for installation in October 2024. The works are expected to continue until 2025.

TAP AG's CEO, Luca Schieppati, previously told Report that this is the first phase of the expansion project and is being financed by TAP's own funds. The project budget is approximately 132 million euros.

The Trans-Adriatic Pipeline, a key component of the Southern Gas Corridor, has been operational since November 2020, transporting natural gas from Azerbaijan to Europe.
