Gazprom: Sudzha events already driving gas prices higher

The events near Sudzha in Russia's Kursk region have already led to a sharp increase in prices for natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG), according to Sergey Kupriyanov, an official representative of Gazprom, according to Report.

The situation could be further exacerbated by planned repairs at Norwegian gas facilities.

"The events in the Sudzha area have led to a sharp rise in prices for both natural gas and LNG. On August 9, the annual peak of exchange prices was recorded. And it's only summer," Kupriyanov noted.

He added that the scheduled maintenance work on Norwegian gas industry facilities could also be a significant factor.

"According to analysts, the work may be delayed, as happened last year. Analysts also believe that the upward trend in gas prices will continue," he said.

Gas prices in Europe rose by almost 5% the day before, to over $454, updating the maximum level of the year. On August 9, they remained at about the same level but rose to $456 during the day.

According to Gazprom data, gas is being supplied to Europe in transit through Ukraine at a volume of 38.5 million cubic meters per day via the Sudzha gas measuring station, an increase of 3% compared to the level of August 8.
