Gazprom intends to mothball equipment for Nord Stream

Russia’s Gazprom intends to mothball gas pumping equipment at the Portovaya and Slavyanskaya compressor stations, which injected gas into the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, Report informs referring to Kommersant newspaper.

All equipment will remain at the stations; Gazprom doesn’t plan to transport it to other sites. If necessary, it can be put into operation in a short time.

Terror attacks took place on September 26 at once on two Russian export gas pipelines to Europe - Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2. Germany, Denmark and Sweden do not rule out targeted sabotage. The Nord Stream operator Nord Stream AG reported that the state of emergency on gas pipelines is unprecedented and it is impossible to estimate the repair time.

At the time of the explosions, both gas pipelines were not carrying out commercial gas supplies to Europe. Deliveries via Nord Stream were halted on August 31 because, according to Gazprom, the turbines manufactured by Siemens at the Portovaya station failed due to lack of proper maintenance due to sanctions. Nord Stream 2 was never put into commercial operation, although its construction was completed in September 2021.
