Deputy minister: Labor issues delay transition to green energy

Labor issues are delaying the transition to green energy, Elnur Soltanov, the Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Energy and COP29 CEO, said at the round table titled "Just Transition Partnership and Investment Mobilization" held on the 2nd day of Baku Climate Action Week, Report informs.

Soltanov stated that the transition to green energy also raises a number of issues related to labor activities: "Every change creates both winners and losers. This is one of the biggest problems created by the green transition in general. Green transformation creates more losers than winners, and this is one of the main elements hindering the transition process. For example, as we move away from traditional fuels such as oil, natural gas, and coal, key industries will be left out of focus, and the workforce will become non-functional in this new environment."

The deputy minister noted that for this reason, people should be instilled with new skills so that they become part of the transition process and do not slow down its progress.
