Hydrocarbons should be limited in manufacturing plastic products, Elnur Soltanov, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Energy and CEO of COP29, told a press conference of COP29 Azerbaijan Presidency, Report informs.
He said that maintaining 1.5 degrees of global warming is one of the goals:
“I believe that a distinction should be made between 1.5-degree compliance and the idea that hydrocarbons play a role in terms of energy security. BP's latest energy forecast also noted that even in a 2050 net-zero scenario, 1% of global electricity generation could come from coal. In this context, it is possible to adapt to the 1.5 degree target, and hydrocarbons can play a certain role.”
