The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline is operating normally, BP’s Vice President for the Caspian region Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli told a media briefing, according to Report.
Aslanbayli noted that work is underway to fully eliminate the contamination of Azerbaijani oil transported via the pipeline with organic chlorides: “Currently, oil transportation through the pipeline continues. The pipeline is functioning properly.”
He noted that once the issue is fully resolved, the public will be informed.
"While things are still stabilizing at the Ceyhan terminal, we continue loading operations using an extensive sampling process to fully ensure the quality of the crude loaded onto each tanker," he said.
In July, several media outlets, citing sources, reported that certain batches of Azerbaijani Azeri Light crude contained excessive levels of organic chlorides—compounds used to boost production volumes.
On July 24, BP-Azerbaijan announced that quality checks across all facilities along the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline confirmed the crude met specification requirements. Organic chlorides were detected in some storage tanks at the Ceyhan terminal in Türkiye.
