BOEMDA: Azerbaijan plans to replace gray hydrogen with green energy sources

Increased attention needs to be paid to carbon utilization and storage, Rena Humbatova, head of the hydrogen and green technologies department of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources (BOEMDA) under the Ministry of Energy, said at a panel during Baku Climate Action Week.

Report informs that, according to her, Azerbaijan has long produced gray hydrogen from natural gas, but production was stopped due to high costs.

"Currently, we are focused on replacing gray hydrogen with 'green' energy sources. We are preparing new systems for this transition, and the necessary standards have already been defined. We expect successful implementation of these plans in the near future," she said.

Humbatova emphasized the importance of ensuring employment for more than a million people working in the oil and gas sector during the transition to a new economy.
