Baerbock: Kazakhstan eyes opening Hydrogen Diplomacy Bureau

There are plans to open a Hydrogen Diplomacy Bureau in Astana. The goal is to reduce emissions in industry and transport to zero with the help of green hydrogen, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said during a meeting with her Kazakh counterpart Mukhtar Tleuberdi, Report informs referring to Kazakh media.

“First of all, the key resource is young, highly qualified, active, motivated people. In the future, this will be a hub for the exchange of experts, responsible persons of our countries. So that these projects are not only on paper and discussed at press conferences, but that these projects in the future were implemented to produce green hydrogen and technologies of the future,” Baerbock said.

The Kazakh foreign minister noted that one of the world’s largest enterprises for the production of clean and environmentally friendly ‘green’ hydrogen will be built in the country.

“German investments, the latest technologies, know-how and Kazakh raw materials, skilled workers and favorable business environment create a solid basis for expanding cooperation on a win-win basis. In this regard, cooperation in the field of primary processing of raw materials in Kazakhstan is seen as very relevant and promising, rare earth metals needed for high-tech sectors of the economy, as well as the creation of production of environmentally friendly energy sources,” Tleuberdi said.

He noted that as part of this initiative, projects in the field of digitalization, energy and transport will be implemented in the region.

In turn, Baerbock said that the hydrogen project near the Caspian Sea is an example of what projects are being discussed under the Global gateway initiative.

“By joint efforts, from 2030, 3 million tons of green hydrogen can be produced annually via wind energy through the electrolysis of water from the Caspian Sea,” she said.

The parties noted that the production of ‘green’ hydrogen will ensure the security of energy and raw materials in Europe and Asia on a unique industrial scale.
