Azerbaijan's profits from polyethylene exports grow in 2022

From January through April 2022, according to customs declarations, Azerbaijan exported 38,386.5 tons of polyethylene in primary forms for $53.648 million, Report informs, citing the State Customs Committee.

According to the committee, the amount of the exports decreased by 15.3%, while their monetary value went up by 5.2%, compared to the same period in 2021.

In January-April 2022, the share of polyethylene in Azerbaijan's non-oil exports was 5.56%. During this period, the share of polyethylene in primary forms in the country's total exports was 0.45%.

Polyethylene and polypropylene are produced in Azerbaijan at the SOCAR Polymer plant. The SOCAR Polymer project includes a polypropylene plant with an annual production capacity of 184,000 tons and a high-density polyethylene plant with an annual production of 120,000 tons. The polypropylene plant was inaugurated on July 18, 2018 with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Italian President Sergio Mattarella. The export of polypropylene began on October 5 of the same year.
