Azerbaijan's polyethylene exports down by 20%

From January through October 2022, Azerbaijan exported 93,935.89 tons of polyethylene in primary forms for over $120,817,570, Report informs, citing the country's State Customs Committee

These figures are 19.7% and 14.7% less than the same period of January-October 2021, respectively.

In January-October 2022, the share of polyethylene in Azerbaijan's non-oil exports was 5.06%. Meanwhile, the percentage of polyethylene in primary forms in the country's total export was 0.35%.

In the first ten months of 2022, Azerbaijan carried out trade operations with foreign countries in the amount of $46.299 billion. Of the ten-month foreign trade turnover, $34.111 billion accounted for exports, and $11.588 billion for imports.

Polyethylene and polypropylene are produced in Azerbaijan at the SOCAR Polymer plant. The SOCAR Polymer project includes a Polypropylene plant with an annual production capacity of 184,000 tons and a High-Density Polyethylene plant with a yearly production of 120,000 tons. The polypropylene plant was commissioned on July 18, 2018, with the participation of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the President of Italy Sergio Mattarella. The export of polypropylene started on October 5, 2018.
