Azerbaijan currently supplies oil to around 30 countries, and starting December, the number of countries receiving its gas will rise to 12, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said, Report informs, citing the country’s Energy Ministry.
Speaking at the ministerial session on "Challenges and Opportunities for a Sustainable Future" during the First Istanbul Energy Forum, Shahbazov highlighted the expansion of energy cooperation through renewable energy. He emphasized the importance of regional and international collaboration in addressing modern energy challenges, such as meeting growing energy demand, combating climate change, and enhancing energy security.
The session also discussed the role of the COP29 Presidency's energy initiatives in accelerating the global transition to green energy. These initiatives are grounded in Azerbaijan's ambitious national and international renewable energy programs.
Shahbazov mentioned that by 2027, large-scale green energy projects, totaling 2 GW, will enable the export of 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas. He noted that the international renewable energy program includes several green energy corridor projects, such as Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe, Caspian-Black Sea-Europe and Central Asia-Azerbaijan, which will strengthen regional energy cooperation in energy security and energy transition.
The minister also stated that, at Bulgaria's initiative, discussions were held on the possibility of supplying green energy from Georgia to Türkiye and then to Europe. He concluded that these interconnectors will contribute to both energy security and the acceleration of the global energy transition.
Representatives from Georgia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Moldova, Serbia, Uzbekistan, and Libya participated in the discussions, moderated by Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar.
