Azerbaijan, Hungary sign MoU on energy cooperation

A meeting with a delegation of the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Agency (MEKH) with the participation of the Hungarian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Viktor Szederkenyi, was held today at the head office of the Energy Regulatory Agency (EMTA) under the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry, Report informs, citing the agency.

Addressing the meeting, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Energy Regulatory Agency Samir Akhundov stressed that the event would contribute to strengthening relations between Hungary and Azerbaijan, as well as developing cooperation in the energy regulation sector.

MEKH Vice-President Pal Sagvari thanked them for the meeting and informed them about the agency's activities.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the parties. The document was signed by S. Akhundov and P. Sagvari. The memorandum provides for the exchange of experience between the two regulators in the energy sector, in particular renewable energy sources, as well as energy efficiency, mutual practical and training programs, joint research projects, as well as participation in conferences and seminars.

The MoU was signed in accordance with the agreement reached at the first meeting of the working group of the Hungarian-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in the energy sector in February 2020 in Budapest.
