Russia warns most powerful magnetic storm for a year and a half

The biggest magnetic storm for a year and a half has begun on Earth, chief researcher at the laboratory "X-ray astronomy of the sun" Sergey Bogachev told RIA Novosti.

The scientist said that it is related to the activity of the Sun. "This event generates aurora polaris, interference in radio communication," said Sergey Bogachev.

At the same time, the scientist said that there are more serious magnetic storms.

"This storm is the third level, while the scale has five points. Storms of the fifth grade are extremely rare, once in every 10-20 years. This is not a record event," he explained.

The activity began on Tuesday around seven in the morning Baku time and will last until the evening. Normalization of the Earth's magnetic field is expected not earlier than night.

"At present, the event is going through its maximum," Bogachev said and recommended weather-sensitive people to be careful.
