Minister: Environmental issues occupy an important place in bilateral agreement between Azerbaijan and EU

Environmental issues occupy an important place in the bilateral agreement that will define the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev said at the event on 'Strengthening Hydro-Meteorological and Climate Services in Azerbaijan'.

The minister said that increasing the capacity of national forecasting institutions around the world serves to ensure the hydrometeorological security of countries:
"We highly appreciate the support provided to the countries by the World Meteorological Organization, and we continue our business cooperation with the organization. Currently, Azerbaijan is the leader in the region in terms of the number of twinning projects.

"We believe that today's project will be successfully implemented in the coming years. The project is of great importance to Azerbaijan. The complexity of the country's hydrometeorological conditions and its extreme sensitivity to threats related to climate risks show that increasing the efficiency of hydrometeorological activity is one of the most priority issues.

"We are sure that the project will play an essential role in the field of increasing our country's ability to resist natural disasters at the required level, reducing threats and risks, and preventing human casualties and economic losses related to climate factors by supporting the operation of hydrometeorology in Azerbaijan in accordance with modern international practice and requirements."
