Inger Andersen reveals UN's plan to support Caspian littoral states

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has undertaken a series of collaborative efforts to support the Caspian littoral states, said Inger Andersen, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

According to Report, Andersen emphasized, "We are hosting the Secretariat of the Convention adopted by five countries that are striving to work together in the complex conditions of the Caspian Sea. It's evident that more is required, necessitating increased information sharing and joint efforts between these nations."

Andersen noted that the ecology of the Caspian Sea was a key topic in today's meetings. She elaborated, "We discussed how we can make every effort to safeguard this beautiful body of water and ensure its long-term, sustainable future. This means we'll need to address climate change, alterations in rainfall and snow patterns, and importantly, we must also discuss mineral extraction."

"These are some of the discussions we had today, and we look forward to continuing these negotiations during COP29," she said.
