Deputy Minister: Caspian Sea level to drop to varying degrees in future

In the future, the level of the Caspian Sea is expected to drop to varying degrees.

Report informs that Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Rauf Hajiyev said this at a seminar on "The impact of climate change and other factors on the change in the level of the Caspian Sea and the possibility of adaptation".

He noted that fluctuations in the level of the Caspian Sea are one of the most discussed issues in recent years.

“The level of this sea, which plays a special role in the formation of the economies of the Caspian countries, will significantly decrease by the end of the century. Of course, it is possible that all this will ultimately have a serious impact on the ecosystem of the sea, as well as on the ecology and economic life of the Caspian countries."

Over the past 25 years, as a result of the impact of global climate change, the water level in the sea has decreased again, he said.

“German and Dutch scientists have conducted research on this matter. By the end of the century, the level of the Caspian Sea, due to the expected warming scenarios, may decrease by another 9 or 18 meters compared to the current level."
