Azerbaijani minister calls on population to use water efficiently

Citizens should be interested in using water efficiently, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev said in an interview with REAL TV.

Report quotes the minister as saying Azerbaijan is one of the countries experiencing water stress: "Unfortunately, we have not yet achieved the desired result in water use. Today, more than 90% of the water volume in the country is provided for agriculture in the regions."

The minister said that water accounting, correct distribution, and efficient use by farmers are among the main goals: "Unfortunately, water is still used in the country according to old rules. However, compared to the volume and reserves of water 3-4 years ago, the measures taken have positive results. The water level in the rivers was also good this year. This is more favorable from the point of view of water resources. Efficient use of water can save us from all risks and challenges. All coordinated work is aimed at this goal. Today, this area is strictly controlled."
