UN stands ready to help Azerbaijan in the fight against coronavirus

Cooperation between the United Nations (UN) and the Republic of Azerbaijan began in 1992 with Azerbaijan's admission as a Member State. Soon after Azerbaijan declared independence and the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 46/230 at the 82nd plenary meeting of its 46th session in New York on 2 March 1992. The United Nations is engaging with the Government to assess the longer-term socio-economic impact of the pandemic and welcomes the Government's allocation of AZN 2,5 billion to mitigate the socio-economic effects of COVID-19 on the population.

Report informs citing the statement of the UN Office in Azerbaijan.

"We stand ready to support Azerbaijan in scaling up capacity for early identification and isolation of cases, contact tracing, and preparing the health system for increased demand.," the document said.
