The snap parliamentary elections held in Azerbaijan on September 1, demonstrated the will of the people, Samil Ayrim, head of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group, said at a press conference on September 2 devoted to the election results, Report informs.
According to him, the Turkish observation mission visited polling stations not only in Baku but also in Sumgayit.
"The polling stations were set up in accordance with international standards. People could comfortably come and vote, which pleased us," Ayrim stated.
He added that the election results are of great interest to Türkiye as well.
"We hope that the new parliament will contribute to bringing peace to the region and that a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia will be signed soon. I hope the winning candidates will contribute to Azerbaijan's foreign policy," the official stated.
Ayrim emphasized that this was the first parliamentary election held throughout the country since the liberation of Karabakh. "Hopefully, the situation in Karabakh will be even better until the next elections. More people will vote in their native lands," he expressed.
