Today marks the first-ever Day of Lachin city in Azerbaijan, Report informs.

Thus, Day of Lachin city is solemnly celebrated on August 26 every year following the decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev last month.

The celebration of the significant day on this date is related to the deployment of the Azerbaijani Army in the city of Lachin on August 26 last year. On the same day, President Ilham Aliyev announced the return of Azerbaijanis to the city of Lachin on Twitter (currently X): "Today, on August 26, we - Azerbaijanis have returned to the city of Lachin. The Azerbaijani Army was stationed in the city of Lachin. The villages of Zabukh and Sus have been taken under control. I congratulate all the inhabitants of Lachin and the people of Azerbaijan on this occasion. Long live, Lachin! Long live Azerbaijan!"

Thus, on August 26, the State Flag of Azerbaijan was raised in the city of Lachin. The Commander of the Army Corps, Major General Kanan Seyidov reported to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Ilham Aliyev, about the deployment of the Azerbaijani Army to the city of Lachin.

With the deployment of the Azerbaijani Army in the city of Lachin, the settlements of Zabukh and Sus were also taken under full control. The National Flag of Azerbaijan has been flying in the center of Lachin for a year now.

Azerbaijan’s ancient historical lands, which were under Armenian occupation for nearly 30 years, were liberated by military and political means in the 44-day Patriotic War, and every day leading to the glorious Victory is written in golden letters in the history of Azerbaijan.

The cities of Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Zangilan, and Gubadli, as well as the Minjivan, Aghband, Bartaz settlements of the Zangilan district, the Hadrut settlement of the Khojavend district and many villages, the Sugovushan village of the Tartar district, several villages of the Khojaly and Lachin districts were liberated in the Patriotic War at the cost of the lives and blood of soldiers and officers of the brave Azerbaijan Army. In total, over 300 settlements, as well as important strategic heights in the directions of Aghdara, Murovdagh and Zangilan were freed from occupation. The war ended with the liberation of the city of Shusha, the crown of Karabakh, and the act of capitulation signed by Armenia.

Azerbaijan's great victory on the battlefield was confirmed on the political level, as Armenia was forced to hand over the Aghdam, Kalbajar and Lachin districts, and thus, historical justice was restored. According to the tripartite statement signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia after the Patriotic War ended with the victory of Azerbaijan, the Lachin district was handed over on December 1, 2020.

During the 30-year occupation, Azerbaijani cities, villages, and settlements were destroyed by Armenia, cultural heritage was severely damaged, and historical-cultural and religious monuments and mosques were subjected to vandalism. The liberated Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur regions are currently being rebuilt, the areas are cleared of mines, and large-scale restoration and reconstruction work is being carried out.

For the return of internally displaced persons to their native lands, the implementation of the " I State Program on the Great Return to the liberated territories of Azerbaijan" approved by the Order of the President of Azerbaijan No. 3587 dated November 16, 2022, has got underway. The return of IDPs to the city of Lachin has already begun, and work in this direction is continuing.

In addition to the city of Lachin, reconstruction and restoration work is also underway in the Zabukh and Sus villages.
