Ombudsperson: Military and political leadership of Armenia yet to be brought to justice for war crimes

“The military and political leadership of Armenia, which has committed numerous war crimes, has not yet been brought to international legal responsibility,” Ombudsperson’s Office of Azerbaijan said in a statement.

“Two years have passed since the armed forces of Armenia, using prohibited weapons, grossly violated the humanitarian ceasefire regime and shelled the Barda district of Azerbaijan, which is densely populated by civilians, during the Patriotic War.

"On October 27-28, 2020, 29 people were killed, and 112 people were injured as a result of missile attacks on the Barda district, which is far from the area where combat operations were conducted. Civil infrastructure facilities and vehicles in the district were heavily damaged.

"In this regard, we have conducted a fact-finding mission on the facts of numerous casualties, injuries, and destruction of infrastructure objects among the civilian population. A relevant report has been prepared and submitted to international organizations. Unfortunately, the military and political leadership of Armenia, which has committed numerous war crimes by grossly violating the requirements of international humanitarian law, has not yet been brought to international legal responsibility,” reads the statement.
