Baku. 23 November. REPORT.AZ/ "Official visit of Azerbaijani President to Turkmenistan is of great importance in terms of development of bilateral relations," Deputy Elman Nasirov told Report.
He noted that the format of bilateral relations is a priority direction in Azerbaijan's foreign policy: "This format was determined by President Ilham Aliyev. Within this format, our threepartite, fourpartite, in a word, our multilateral relationships are developing dynamically. Relations with neighbor countries are of great political significance for Azerbaijan. In this context, the visit of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Turkmenistan and the results of his visit are of speciali importance. 21 agreements on the development of relations in the field of industry and transport were reached during the meeting. A common stance has been set up to organize a joint commission in this direction."
Nasirov said that the relevant agreements were reached on the development of humanitarian, educational and scientific relations.
The MP reminded that 14 documents were signed during the visit of Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhamedov to Azerbaijan in August 2017: "These is yet another proof that our bilateral relations will develop even further. During the first years of Azerbaijan's independence, there were enough gaps and contradictions in relations with Turkmenistan. Our present-day relations show the level we have reached. At present, relations are strategic. Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan share a common position on fundamental issues. Our bilateral relations within international organizations became a factor that makes our approach similar."
The member of the Azerbaijani Parliament stressed that new opportunities have opened for the development of relations in the field of energy security: “It is no secret that Turkmenistan has the prospect of participating in the Southern Gas Corridor. It is known that Turkmenistan is in the 4th position in terms of gas production, with annual gas production exceeding 80 billion cubic meters. In this regard, Turkmenistan is also interested in the Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline project. There are good opportunities for the development of relations in the field of transport security. When evaluating this visit, we must emphasize one point. As you know, the final statement was signed during the visit. This once again shows that Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are strategic partners ".
Nasirov said that President Ilham Aliyev's commitment to 's foreign policy course, namely balanced policy course, has increased the number of Azerbaijani partners.
Notably, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev left for an official visit to Turkmenistan on November 21. The visit ended on November 22.
