Azerbaijan is taking significant steps to address its landmine problem by strengthening partnerships with specialized international organizations, Report informs.
The country plans to establish an International Center for Advanced Practice and Training in Mine Action.
To support this initiative, a delegation led by Elchin Amirbayov, the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan, has embarked on a business trip to several Southeast Asian countries. The itinerary includes visits to the Kingdom of Thailand, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Kingdom of Cambodia.
According to the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), the delegation includes key figures such as Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of ANAMA's Management Board, Samir Poladov, Deputy Chairman, and other senior officials from relevant departments.
The primary objective of this business trip, scheduled from August 19-30, 2024, is to study international best practices related to the establishment of the new center.
The delegation aims to expand cooperation with similar centers in countries that have faced mine-related challenges and specialized international organizations in this field.
As part of the visit, in addition to official meetings, there are plans to visit training centers and regions to familiarize with activities in areas where demining operations are conducted.
