Report requests Tbilisi to fix mistake on billboards

Report's Georgian bureau has appealed to the Tbilisi City Council (Sakrebulo) regarding the inaccuracies on billboards in the street named after prominent Azerbaijani poet Ahmad Djavad.

The City Council has taken control of the issue, the Commission on Names and Symbols told Report.

According to the appeal, the billboards in a Tbilisi street named after Ahmad Djavad contain a gross mistake. It says that the poet's 128th anniversary will be celebrated on May 5. Ahmad Djavad is a famous Azerbaijani poet, public figure, author of the Azerbaijani anthem, and translation of Shota Rustaveli's 'The Knight in the tiger's skin' into Azerbaijani.

"Correcting the mistakes on the boards would be a sign of respect for the poet," noted the appeal.

The commission promised to fix the error.

Report's local bureau will continue to keep the matter in focus.

Although the street boards spell the poet's name correctly in the Georgian language, Djavad's surname has been misspelled in English (Djavadan instead of Djavad) since 2011.
