The next super league for the world UBO took place this time in Kyiv, Ukraine, between Panamanian Irving Berry and Azerbaijani Nazri Rahimov from Ukraine. With the game ending with the complete victory of 22-year-old Rahimov, Rahimov became the youngest champion in the history of Ukraine. At the same time, UBO gave the Super League belt to Ukraine.
Report informs that the champion is currently preparing for the next competition: "I was born and raised in Mykolaiv, Ukraine. My parents were born in the village of Garadamli, Imishli district of Azerbaijan. I have been boxing since I was 10 years old. I fought among amateurs in national championships. After the age of 18, I switched to professional boxing and already had 13 successful duels. At 20, I fought for the title of champion of Ukraine. I became the youngest Ukrainian champion in the history of Ukraine.
"I was given the opportunity to compete in the world championship in my hometown Brovary. But my opponent was changed due to some problems. No one wanted to compete with Ukraine because of the war. The battle was much more difficult than we expected. My opponent from Panama accepted our invitation in no time. He was very strong. Despite this, I knocked him out in the 10th round of a 90-minute fight and won the world super lightweight title. Initially, the duel was planned to be held on June 24 this year. However, due to the heavy shelling of Kyiv, the match was rescheduled to July 29, and then to August 12. As a result, we won the duel held in Brovary, I became the champion of Ukraine among professionals and won the belt.
"There are 5 more world championship belts to win. 4 of them are in America. Therefore, we must have several battles to gain more experience and compete with the Americans. Our plans for the next year and a half are to hold 3-4 fights, face the Americans, and get 4 main belts. In the Olympic games, boxing is three rounds with 3 minutes for each, and in our case, it is twelve rounds with 3 minutes. Professional boxing is more difficult than other sports. Here you have 4-5 fights in one tournament. You prepare fully for 2-3 months since you know in advance who your opponent is.
"We are supported by many - not only Ukrainians but also Azerbaijanis. Our boxing club is the number one club in Ukraine. In general, we have friends from all nationalities who support our club. I am deeply grateful to everyone who believed in me."
The young champion also spoke about the conditions under which he was preparing for the competition: "When I was 18 years old, I moved from Mykolaiv to the city of Brovary, Kyiv region. I have been living in this room next to the gym for two years. I train from early morning till evening. For an athlete, these conditions are enough, albeit difficult. I do more boxing in this gym to get better results."
Currently, Nazir Rahimov has gone to Poland for further training as a representative of Ukraine.
