Expert: Destruction of cultural monuments on Azerbaijan's liberated lands should be investigated

It is necessary to ensure and monitor the implementation of international conventions, Professor of the University of Arizona Leonard Hammer said at the International Scientific Conference on "The Role of UNESCO Conventions Concerning the Protection of Cultural Properties and Aspects of Improving Their Implementation" organized by the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO, jointly with the ICOMOS National Committee of Azerbaijan and the Development Institute and Diplomacy of the ADA University, Report informs.

He believes that bureaucratic factors hinder the full implementation of their tasks and obligations by international organizations, including UNESCO. According to him, the visit of the UNESCO mission to the liberated territories of Azerbaijan is primarily a vast bureaucratic process.

"Many cultural objects have been destroyed in the liberated territories, and all these facts need to be thoroughly investigated," Hammer said.
