Azerbaijani film wins at Tashkent festival

From September 28 to October 3, the 13th Tashkent International Film Festival “Pearl of the Silk Road” was held in Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan’s Culture Ministry told Report.

Uzbek deputy prime minister, Minister of Tourism and Sports Aziz Abdukhakimov made a speech at the opening ceremony of the festival and read out a congratulatory letter from Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The festival was attended by 350 guests from almost 50 countries, and 150 films were shown. Famous world actors and directors attended the Tashkent festival as honored guests - Steven Seagal, Mithun Chakraborty, Timur Bekmambetov, Pavel Priluchny, Luc Besson, Nikita Mikhalkov, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Ozcan Deniz and other famous artists.

Days of Azerbaijani cinema were held within the “Pearl of the Silk Road” international film festival in the Azerbaijan Cultural Center named after Heydar Aliyev in Tashkent. Speaking about the cooperation of Azerbaijani and Uzbek filmmakers, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Uzbekistan Huseyn Guliyev said that the famous Azerbaijani film “Encounter” by film director Tofig Taghizade is a vivid example of Azerbaijani-Uzbek friendship.

A documentary film “Us” was shown at the ceremony, jointly produced by the Baku Media Center with the support of the Culture Ministry and the Azerbaijanfilm State Cinema Studio named after Jafar Jabbarli, dedicated to the victory in the Patriotic War.

As part of the Days of Cinema in Tashkent, Khiva and Nukus, films by Ismayil Safarali “The Fisherman’s Daughter,” Ali-Sattar Guliyev “Olympia,” Ksenia Lagutina “Farida,” Orman Aliyev “Us,” Fariz Ahmadov “The Last One,” Murad Huseynov “Time of Wild Cranes” and the film “Two Roads” by Murad Huseynov and Saddam Mehdiyev were demonstrated to visitors.

The film “Two Roads” by young filmmakers Murad Huseynov and Saddam Mehdiyev won in the nomination “For Enlightenment and Progress” within the “Cinema in 5 Days” competition of the Tashkent International Film Festival.

The festival, which took place in Uzbekistan from September 28 to October 3, is an important event in the cultural life of the Silk Road countries, within the framework of which a creative exchange of experience and cooperation in the field of culture, peace and friendship among peoples took place.
