WCO official: Green Customs Action Plan allows for joint environmental initiatives

The Green Customs Action Plan allows for joint environmental initiatives, Gael Grooby, Acting Director of Tariff and Trade Affairs at the World Customs Organization (WCO), stated at the event "Green Customs: Facilitating Sustainable Trade, Development through Innovation and Standards" held within COP29 in Baku, Report informs.

Grooby noted that the Green Customs Action Plan, created two years ago, focuses on three main issues: "First, as customs committees and WCO, to play a role in reducing carbon emissions and adopt an environmentally clean approach. The second issue is to identify specific steps as WCO and customs authorities to ensure environmental law enforcement at borders, and the third is to provide guidelines to minimize customs authorities' environmental impact and promote sustainable practices."

She emphasized that in this context, their main priority is to accurately inspect everything crossing the border in either direction and ensure the movement of only permitted products.
