Panel session on Azerbaijan's energy transition concludes at Baku Climate Action Week

On September 30, the panel session "Azerbaijan's Energy Transition" concluded as part of the Baku Climate Action Week, Report informs.

The session discussed issues of developing the green energy sector and the work being carried out by Azerbaijan in the energy sector.

Speaking at the panel, Deputy Minister of Energy Elnur Soltanov noted that 70% of greenhouse gas emissions in Azerbaijan come from the energy sector. He emphasized that the country is actively taking measures aimed at reducing the negative impact on the environment in this area.

Elmir Musayev, director of SOCAR Green, in turn, stated that the global transition to green energy and climate sustainability have allowed SOCAR to expand its participation in the global market.

Patrick Herhold, managing director and senior partner at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), noted that Azerbaijan has great potential in both solar and wind energy.

"A correct strategy is necessary for the transition to green energy," he said.

Maxim Zubov, vice president of Siemens Energy, noted that for decarbonization, all partners need to review their work schemes. Abdulla Malek, director of Energy Transition at COP28, emphasized that there is very little time left before COP29 in Azerbaijan.

"Along with the COP29 presidency, we engaged the private and public sectors in this area last week. The topic of green energy storage is also in the focus of COP29," he said.
