Minister: Renewable energy corridors reflect Azerbaijan's commitment to global development

Renewable energy corridors reflect Azerbaijan's commitment not only to increase energy exports but also to take a leading position in global sustainable development, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said at the Energy Transition Investment Forum for Central Asia held on the sidelines of COP29, Report informs.

Shahbazov said that Azerbaijan is implementing strategically important renewable energy projects in the region by creating green energy zones in Karabakh, Eastern Zangazur, and Nakhchivan, as well as diversified energy infrastructure to deliver green energy from the Caspian Sea to Europe: "These efforts are not only aimed at building a clean energy future for Azerbaijan but are also the driving force behind 29 energy initiatives aimed at accelerating green energy growth and removing barriers on a regional and global scale. Azerbaijan's free energy initiative, consisting of five main components, provides concrete solutions to support the successful implementation of 28 commitments to triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency."

According to the minister, one of these initiatives is the Green Energy Commitment that promotes the creation of green energy corridors and green energy zones: "Green energy corridors are an effective solution for large-scale transmission of renewable energy, enabling the use of high-potential energy resources located far from major consumption centers. Key priorities for developing green energy corridors include strengthening regional cooperation, creating an appropriate regulatory framework, ensuring sustainable financing opportunities, and expanding HVDC cable production. Azerbaijan is currently implementing Caspian Sea-Black Sea-Europe, Central Asia-Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe projects."
