The global community must ensure the achievement of climate financing goals, Dominica's Minister of Environment, Cozier Frederick, said in an exclusive statement to Report.

According to him, negotiations on financing are ongoing, but more results need to be achieved. "We believe that 200 billion is not enough, and financing should be increased to ensure the achievement of goals by developed countries, which are the main sources of emissions," he said.

Cozier believes that climate change hits developing countries very hard, therefore proper financing should be ensured.

"I want to address the main emitters, the developed countries. [...] we expect much more from the COP parties. [...] Developed countries understand our position, however, actions still don't go beyond negotiations," he said.

The minister emphasized that Azerbaijan is doing significant work to achieve agreements between parties, highly appreciating the country's chairmanship.

He also noted that first-world countries allow themselves to treat developing countries incorrectly. "I think sometimes they talk to us condescendingly. We have achieved absolute zero, we don't produce emissions, but they still give us some advice," said Cozier Frederick, noting that his country periodically questions the appropriateness of attending summits, given the lack of real action from the Global North, nevertheless it's always necessary to be part of negotiation processes.

"We must demonstrate the consequences of climate change and our activities to address them, including investments in climate stability, using our own limited resources. We must make our voice heard to the necessary authorities so they can help us move forward," he concluded.
