Margvelashvili: Regional cooperation will help reduce consequences of climate change

Regional cooperation in transport and joining forces can help reduce the impacts of climate change, the head of the Center for Energy Research at Ilia State University in Tbilisi, Professor Murman Margvelashvili, said at an event "Opportunities and Challenges for Climate Action. European and Regional Perspective" held at ADA University in Baku on May 22, Report informs.

Margvelashvili noted that 75% of greenhouse gas emissions in the world come from the energy sector.

“Energy efficiency is a very complex topic that affects almost all sectors of the economy and all types of human activity. We could, for example, set common fuel-saving standards across the region. We expect large flows of freight and road transport, so we could agree on this issue, thereby significantly contributing to the reduction of emissions from transport,” he said.

He also called for more electric vehicle charging stations to be installed across the region to encourage wider use.
