Conferences of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP) are events where everyone must come together to combat climate change, the State Secretary and Special Envoy for International Climate Action at Federal Foreign Office of Germany Jennifer Morgan said at high-level roundtable in Paris “Beyond COP28: Time to Unite, Act, and Deliver on the UAE Consensus,” Report informs.
According to Mogran, now is the time for everyone to come together in a new way to respond to the shocks that are happening in the world as a result of the climate crisis, and then to the results of reaction to the climate crisis in the process of transitioning energy systems and economies.
Morgan emphasized that at the moment, almost all countries are working on the issue of ensuring energy security to transition to a more equitable society.
“In order to create the conditions for the implementation of the COP28 agreements, as well as to prepare for COP29 this year and COP30 next year, I will just briefly touch on three key conditions. This is achieving the 1.5°C mission, providing a social component, and financing. As for the social component, we need a people-oriented transition, it shouldn’t just be energy experts, it concerns ordinary people on the street. This is about families, it's about our citizens, and we have to find a way to transition together. Regarding financing, we already have a plan for economic investment and transit, which we need to combine in order to strategically use the available funds, in this sense the role of the International Energy Agency is important,” she added.
