Israel's special envoy calls for urgent joint action to overcome climate challenges

Negotiations at COP29 are quite complex, but it's essential to look at the bigger picture - all parties know the common direction. Reducing emissions, investing in clean energy, and implementing future technologies are the key objectives. This COP must build on the progress already achieved in previous areas and show tangible and clear results on the main issues under consideration, Israel's Special Envoy for Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Gideon Behar, said at the high-level meeting within the framework of COP29, according to Report.

"Mitigation, adaptation, climate finance, Article 6, gender issues, and much more - addressing these issues is the only way to achieve transformation and make the necessary progress in saving our planet. For Israel, this transformation is not just an option; it is a necessity," he declared.

Behar emphasized that Israel is committed to global efforts to combat climate change. The country has introduced a carbon tax, and a new climate law is being advanced through parliament.

"The choices we all make here today are about building a future for generations to come. We must act together urgently with hope and firm belief that we are building something much greater than the challenges we face," he stated.

The Special Envoy also expressed sincere appreciation and gratitude to the government and people of Azerbaijan for hosting this conference.
