The "Green Customs" strategy of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) aims to simplify trade processes without harming the environment, CBP Trade Office representative Annamarie Highsmith stated at the event "Green Customs: Developing Sustainable Trade through Simplification, Innovation, and Standards" within COP29.
The strategy is based on four key areas: promoting "green trade," strengthening control mechanisms, accelerating innovation, and optimizing internal operations. According to Highsmith, the strategy's goal is to simplify trade processes while reducing carbon emissions, which is necessary for environmental protection.
She emphasized that CBP's strategic vision for "green trade" remains unchanged, and cooperation with partners contributes to achieving success in both trade facilitation and nature protection.
Heismith noted that CBP ensures transparency and rule compliance to create a level playing field for business.
Everyone knows the rules and must follow them, she said, adding that they prevent harmful products from entering the US market, identify counterfeit goods, and do not allow trade in products made using forced labor.
